A Associação de Ténis de Mesa do Algarve levou a efeito nos dias 16 e 17 de Outubro de 2010 o seu 38º Grande Torneio Internacional “Associação de Ténis de Mesa do Algarve/Cidade de Faro”. O Torneio foi disputado no Pavilhão do Sporting Clube Farense, e teve o alto Patrocínio da Câmara Municipal de Faro / Ambifaro e o apoio da Federação Portuguesa de Ténis de Mesa.

 

O CLUB de VILA REAL, com 6 dos seus melhores atletas da formação, juntou-se a mais de 200 atletas oriundos de 28 colectividades no primeiro grande Torneio da época a contar para o ranking nacional. A comitiva dirigida pelo delegado José Fernandes fez-se acompanhar dos treinadores Oleksandr Stanko e Artur Varejão.

 

No primeiro dia de prova a nossa campeã nacional Sara Rocha na exigente prova de cadetes femininos venceu com facilidade o seu grupo de apuramento, tendo alcançado ainda os 1/4 de final onde foi derrotada pela experiente atleta do CTM Mirandela, alcançando assim um sexto lugar numa prova muito disputada. O atleta iniciado Francisco Fernandes, jovem promessa do CLUB, após ter ultrapassado com todo o mérito todos os seus adversários, apenas perdeu na final com um atleta do ADL Torre, obtendo um excelente segundo lugar no torneio.

No segundo dia de prova, a categoria de infantis, masculinos e femininos foi totalmente dominada pelos atletas vilarealenses do CLUB que conseguiram a vitória nas provas em disputa. Os iniciados masculinos conquistaram o primeiro lugar por equipas, ultrapassando o Sporting Club de Portugal e o Sport Lisboa e Benfica. A somar a esta importante vitória por equipas destaca-se a vitória individual do Francisco Taveira, que esteve imparável ao longo de toda a prova, bem como os atletas Pedro Varejão e David Teixeira pelas 3ª e 6ª posições, que respectivamente obtiveram, ainda de destacar a boa prestação deFrancisco Fernandes (iniciado) que participou ainda neste prova de infantis tendo obtido um óptimo segundo lugar no grupo de apuramento. Na prova de infantis femininos, a Rita Varejão entrou directamente numa poule final que logrou ganhar com toda a facilidade e assim conquistar mais um torneio para a sua curta mas recheada carreira desportista.

Saldou-se de forma extremamente positiva mais uma prova dos vilarealenses do CLUB de VILA REALtendo sido neste torneio o clube que alcançou mais lugares no pódio, enaltecendo Vila Real no panorama desportivo.
